Obituary

Gaylon Joyce Hice, who resided in the Cox Valley Community near Magazine, Arkansas, died Friday, October 14, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith. She was born on January 20, 1946, in Logan County near Magazine to the late Willard Odell Downs and Charlene (Bynum) Downs. She was 76 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Alan Douglas "Red" Hice, and two brothers, Charles Downs and O'Neal Downs.

Gaylon was a homemaker, worked several years for Medi-Sav Pharmacy in Charleston, and was a member of Clark Chapel Church of God of the Abramhamic Faith.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Paris. Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery, located south of Paris, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris.

She is survived by her five sons, Doug Hice, Martin Hice and wife Kimberly, Kip Hice and wife Kim, and Quentin Hice, all of Cox Valley Community and Andy Hice and wife Beth of Fort Smith; two sisters, Carol Smith and Charlotte Humphries, both of the Driggs Community; a brother, Jerry Downs and wife Diane of the Washburn Community in Sebastian County; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Rick Bynum, Jamie Bynum, Keith Downs, Thomas Daigle, Brian Davenport, Lyndle Thacker, and Ashton Champion.

Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren.

The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
