Obituary

Garland "Red" Lee Williams of Paris was born August 4, 1922 in New Blaine to the late Henry Allen Williams and Dora Ethel Mae (Boyd) Williams, and passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015, at Methodist Health and Rehab in Fort Smith at the age of 93.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Haron, Arthema, and Orvil Williams; sister, Juanema Williams Keys, and his wife of 66 years, Leona Mae (White) Williams.

Red is survived by his sister, Welda Mae Williams Harris, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two daughters, Connie Ann Williams Townley (Rod) and Velta Kay Williams Schluterman (Steve) of Fort Smith; and two sons, Ronnie Lee Williams of Paris and Michael Lee Williams (Shelia) of Parker, CO. He was cherished by nine grandchildren, Cassandra (Bob) Rowan and Christina Longley of Seattle, WA, David Townley of Fayetteville, AR, Justin Williams of Paris, AR, Casey (Mandy) Williams of Charleston, AR, Ryan (Emily) Williams and Jeffrey Williams of Denver, CO, Blake Schluterman of Houston, TX and Lyndsey Schluterman of Fort Smith, AR. He was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Cade and Morgan Rowan, Parker Longley, Kiera and Brice Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In 1940 Red left the farm to work for the CCC in Minnesota to help his family. Moving to California in 1943 he worked as a taxi driver and for the Naval Yard on Coronado Island. He married the love of his life in 1945 and shortly after they moved to Paris to settle and raise a family. He actively participated in his community serving on the board of the First National Bank, a volunteer fireman, member of the Jaycees, a long-time treasurer of the First Baptist Church, member of the Paris Industrial Development Corporation, and the Logan County Housing Development. Red loved his family, community, church and all his hunting and coffee buddies. He loved his garden, hunting dogs, old truck "Blue", antique cars and a good game of Rook. He owned the Paris Body Shop until his retirement.

Red spent the last year and a half at Methodist Health and Rehab in Fort Smith where he was treated with dignity and respect. He loved his caregivers who attended to his needs everyday with love and kindness.

Pallbearers will be Ed, Justin, Casey, and Ryan Williams, Blake Schluterman and David Townley.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Paris, with burial to follow at Elizabeth Hall in New Blaine, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 11th, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris.
