Galer Floyd Gene Elkins, who resided in Lavaca, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015 in Lavaca. He was born April 15, 1951 in Charleston, Arkansas to the late Roy Elkins and Florine (Broughton) Elkins. He was 63 years old. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Brown) Elkins.

Galer was a retired truck driver for Quick Transport in Fort Smith. He was a SSGT in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a Vietnam War Marine Veteran and was awarded numerous medals, badges, and citation ribbons while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 27th, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston. Burial with "Military Honors" will be at Arbuckle Island Cemetery, located east of Lavaca on Hwy. 96, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

Officiating the service will be Mr. Kevin L. Wright.

He is survived by one daughter, Angela Durham and husband Bill of Charleston; two sons, Adam Elkins of Lavaca and Anthony Elkins and wife Mary of Lavaca; two sisters, Ruby Long of Lavaca and Clara Mae Gardner of Oregon; one step-sister, Regina Criner of California; one brother, Calvin Elkins of Lavaca; four step-brothers, Jerry Couch of Van Buren, Tommy Couch, James Couch, and Elton Couch, all of California; five grandchildren, Kristin Durham, Tyler Elkins, Preston Durham, Bryson Elkins, and Hunter Elkins; one step-granddaughter, Amber White.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Elkins, Preston Durham, Josh Brown, Justin Cornell, Tim Elkins, and Calvin Elkins.

Family will visit with friends 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday night at the funeral home.
