Obituary

Floy M. (Love) Long, 86, of Lavaca, Arkansas, died Friday, August 17, 2012 in hospice care at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith surrounded by her family. She was born in Olin, Iowa on August 22, 1925. She met Oscar T. Long in Wichita, Kansas in route to his duty station in Pratt, Kansas and married after the third date. They would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in November. As part of his military service, they travelled the world together.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Oscar; her son, Thomas and wife Sharon; three grandchildren, Karen Powell and husband Ian, Kenneth Long, and Kevin Long and wife Teresa; one great-grandson, Chad Powell; one sister, Delores Thumma and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Lovila Zimmerman, Katherine Love, and Otheal Liggett.

She enjoyed travelling, reading, sewing and watching wildlife, especially her hummingbirds. All of her family will miss her witty sense of humor, her soft voice, her warm hugs, and having her call them 'sugar' in her soft southern drawl. Words cannot fully describe what she meant to each and every one of us.

There will be a private service and burial.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Center & Stroke @ Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston.
