Esther Mae Hughes, 78, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, in her home. She was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Cecil to the late Tom Mainard and Tavie Eubanks Mainard. She was a retired computer analyst for Northrop Aircraft in California, a volunteer at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith and a member of the Assembly of God in Barling. She was the widow of H.W. Hughes.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008 at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston with burial at Eubanks Cemetery west of Cecil under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home of Charleston.

She is survived by one daughter, Connie Shryer and son-in-law, Kirk Shryer of Barling; one sister, Tommie Hardin of California; and four grandchildren, Brian Shryer and Jamey Shryer, both of Barling, and Bret Shryer and Tracey Hutchens, both of California.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Shryer, Brian Shryer and Kyle Stevens.

Viewing will begin Wednesday morning at the funeral home.
