Obituary

Alice Elaine Carney of Lavaca, Arkansas, died Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born on December 3, 1943, in Charleston, Arkansas, to the late Orville Moore, Sr. and Minnie Lorene (Hunter) Moore. She was 79 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy Joe Carney; a son, Jeff Carney; and a brother, Billy Ray Moore.

For 28 years, Elaine worked for ABF Freight in Fort Smith. She was a 1961 graduate of Charleston High School and member of First Southern Baptist Church in Central City.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 4th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with Pastor Russ Tyler officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Valley Cemetery, located south of Lavaca, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

She is survived by her son, John Carney of Lavaca; her sister, Barbara of California; two brothers, Orville Moore, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Colorado, and Stanley Moore of Rogers; and a granddaughter, Haven Carney of Arizona.

Pallbearers are Larry McGill, Larry McUllum, David Davidson, Hugh Hardgrave, and Mike Ray.

The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
