Obituary

Reuben Duane Hill of Charleston, Arkansas, died Friday, October 20, 2023, at Heart of Hospice Inpatient Unit at Baptist Health Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born on January 21, 1938, in Branch, Arkansas, to the late George J. Hill and Maude (King) Hill. He was 85 years old.

Duane was a graduate of County Line High School, Arkansas Tech University, and Oklahoma State University. For many years, Duane worked for Garrison Furniture Factory in Fort Smith and SEBA Furniture in Greenwood. He served 24 years as Board President for Franklin County Farm Bureau. He spent his entire life working with his dad George on the farm. He was an U.S. Army veteran, member of the Arkansas Cattleman's Association, and member of Marietta Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Charleston.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 23rd at First Baptist Church in Lavaca, with Pastor Steven Smithson officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marjo (King) Hill; a daughter, Sandra Newman and husband Perry of Lavaca; two sons, Robert Hill and wife Lori of Charleston and David Hill and wife Kelly of Van Buren; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Teague and husband Josh, Sara Floyd and husband Nick, Rachel Pevehouse and husband Caleb, Beth Woolsey and husband Jason, Drew Hill and wife Emily, Brooke Parks and husband Jon, Summer Cox and husband Chad, and Paige Lolley and husband Charles; and twenty great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Nick Floyd, Caleb Pevehouse, Jason Woolsey, Jon Parks, Chad Cox, and Charles Lolley.

Honorary pallbearers are Allen Hales, Sr., Allen Hales, Jr., A.J. Hales, Dewayne Glidewell, Jason Chastain, Jim Rogers, Doug Eveld, and board members of Franklin County Farm Bureau.

The family will visit with friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22nd at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston.
