Douglas David Humphrey, who resided near Lavaca, Arkansas, died Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at his home. He was born September 19, 1942, in Checotah, Oklahoma, to the late J.G. (Shorty) Humphrey and Ethel (Lewis) Humphrey. He was 78 years old. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Humphrey; and a nephew, Kelly Humphrey.
Doug was a retired carpenter and postal worker. He served in the U.S. Army and attended Union Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 25th, at Union Baptist Church, with Rev. Kyle Horton officiating. A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah, Oklahoma, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Wooster) Humphrey; his children, David Humphrey and wife Amy of Enid, Oklahoma, Shannon Crary and husband Steve of Roberts, Montana, Michael Peacock and wife Tami of Hackett, Arkansas, and Gwen Redemske of Jacksonville, Illinois; a brother, Donald Joe Humphrey and wife Glenda of Van Buren, Arkansas; two sisters, Joan Kay Clark of Checotah, Oklahoma and Brenda Jamison and husband Chuck of Fort Smith, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Bailey (Jordan) Proctor, Amanda and Meraiah Humphrey, Caitlyn (Kenny) Hildebrand, Meghan (Jeremy) Cooper, Leah Peacock, and Paula Redemske; his great-grandchildren, Elliot Proctor, Justin Harris, and Audree and Lucas Hildebrand. He also leaves behind much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers are David Humphrey, Mike Humphrey, Trent Humphrey, Michael Peacock, Sam McCoy, Jeremy Humphrey, Steve Crary, and Brad Jamison.
Honorary pallbearers are Mike Patterson, Rollie Hamilton, Bill Mainer, and Ron Lachappelle.
The family will visit with friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to Doug's funeral expenses, attn: The Humphrey Family, 7408 Shaver Rd. Lavaca, AR 72941.
