Doris Ann Best of Caulksville, Arkansas, died Wednesday, February 1, 2023 in Lavaca, Arkansas. She was born on November 25, 1940, in Grayson County, Texas, to the late Hugh Weldon Martin and Evelyn (Riddle) Martin. She was 82 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 51 plus years, Jim Best.

Doris was a retired school teacher and taught at County Line School District for 30 years. Before coming to County Line, she taught school in Newkirk, Oklahoma and in Morrilton, Arkansas. She was a graduate of County Line High School and graduated from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. For many years, Doris was church pianist, Sunday School teacher, and Vacation Bible School Director. She was a member of the County Line Alumni Association, enjoyed quilting and making sour dough bread, and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Ratcliff.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 6th at First Baptist Church in Ratcliff, with Pastor Robert Berry officiating. Burial will follow at Caulksville Cemetery, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

She is survived by her daughter, Twila Best of Lavaca; two sons, Greg Best and wife Tammy of Fort Smith and Rodney Best and wife Kim of Arkansas City, Kansas; a sister, Joyce Wood of Caulksville; a brother, Bud Martin of Charleston; six grandchildren, Kristy Best of Hot Springs, Levi Best and wife Katlyn of Lavaca, Dalton Best and wife Jennifer of Van Buren, Christopher McGlasson and wife Alicia of Derby, Kansas, Taylor Peak and husband Cameron of Bel Air, Kansas, and Katelyn Schuler and husband Braden of Belton, Missouri; and four great-grandchildren, Sophia, Cooper, Alaya, and Baylor.

Pallbearers are Levi Best, Dalton Best, Christopher McGlasson, Braden Schuler, Cameron Peak, and Justin White.

The family will visit with friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Charleston.
