Donald Edward Rice of Charleston, Arkansas, died Monday, June 17, 2024, at his home. He was born on June 3, 1941, in the Vesta Community near Charleston to the late Clyde Edward Rice and Ethel Harrison Rice. He was 83 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 42 years, Judy Gayle (Williams) Rice; a son, Michael "Fred" Rice; and two sisters, Opal King and Cleta Mueller.
Don was a retired truck driver for S&B Ready Mix in Charleston and served in the National Guard. Some of Don's favorite hobbies over the years were riding horses, motorcycles, and antique cars. Don loved his family very much and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 19th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with the Rev. Bill VanMeter officiating. Burial will follow at Caulksville Cemetery in Caulksville, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by his daughter, Leisa Smith of Ratcliff; his son, Cody Rice of Kentucky; a sister, Phyllis Bowe of Portland, Oregon; two brothers, Dale Rice and wife Joanie and Ron Rice and wife Lynn, all of Charleston; two grandchildren, Kirsten Drewry and husband Marshall of the Driggs Community and Lucas Hice and wife Lauren of Ratcliff; and four great-grandchildren, Cayden Drewry, Michael Drewry, Grayson Hice and Caroline Hice.
Pallbearers are Dale Rice, Ron Rice, Lucas Hice, Marshall Drewry, Cayden Drewry, Michael Drewry, and Mark King.
Honorary pallbearers are Kirsten Drewry, Lauren Hice, Grayson Hice and Caroline Hice.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m.. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Charleston.
