Dudley Curtis "D.C." Holden, Jr., who resided near Cecil, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born February 17, 1933, in Cecil to the late Dudley Curtis Holden, Sr. and Ola Valentine (Griffith) Holden. He was 83 years old. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Vicki Holden and one grandson, Kurt Robinson.
D.C. was a 37 year retired U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was Command Master Chief while serving at the U.S. Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He received numerous awards, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Award, just to name a few. D.C. was a 1950 graduate of Ozark High School. He was also a Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason and he was a member and Past-Master of Ozark Lodge 79 and member of Charleston Lodge 155. He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association, Gideons International, and he was a member of Cecil United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Monday, April 25th, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston. Burial with "Full Military Honors and Masonic Rites" will be at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Smith National Cemetery, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Della (Casey) Holden; two daughters, Martha Gingras and husband Richard of Anchorage, Alaska and Beth Reece and husband Ken of Holly Springs, North Carolina; his sister, Martha Bagley of St. Petersburg, Florida; his brother, Hugh Holden of Cecil; seven grandchildren, Robert, Richard, and Russell Gingras, Mitchell and Philip Reece, Olivia Casey, and Rachel Pullin.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Family will visit with friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Public viewing will begin Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
