David Sidney Smith of Lavaca, Arkansas, died Sunday, October 23, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born on September 5, 1946, in San Diego, California, to the late Reginald Owens Smith and Madelen Oliver Smith. He was 76 years old. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce and Mark, and a sister, Laurelle.

For many years, David was a newspaper reporter for "The Desert Sun" in Palm Springs, California.

A memorial graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4th at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Manning Smith; three sons, Aaron Thomas of Palm Springs, California, Lucas Owen Smith of Lavaca, and Nathan Manning Smith and wife Charlotte of Lavaca; three sisters, Sheryl Ann Smith, Michelle Smith, and Maggie Smith, all of Sacramento, California; a brother, Terry Bernardo of Texas; two grandchildren, Eli Smith and Olivia Smith.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston, Arkansas.
