IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Martin
Dewitt
July 15, 1938 – January 11, 2025
David Martin DeWitt of Fort Smith, Arkansas, died Saturday, January 11, 2025, at his home. He was born on July 15, 1938, in Fort Smith to the late John Donovan "Jack" DeWitt and Letha (Brown) DeWitt. He was 86 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack DeWitt.
David loved his family. He always told his six children that he loved them and was so proud of them. He enjoyed a good joke, but when he tried to retell it he would start laughing so hard he was unable to get to the punchline. We will surely miss his wonderful laugh. As one of his sons pointed out, David got to do everything he wanted to. He ran track, played tennis, played in a rock and roll band, hunted, shot skeet, fished and played golf. And most important of all, he praised his Lord and Savior. Some said he was a natural athlete. He was a proud owner of DeWitt Oldsmobile and worked there from the age of 15.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeanie (James) DeWitt; three daughters, Lea DeWitt McGowan and husband Todd of Chesterfield, Missouri, Peyton Terral and husband Richard of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Meggan Norman and husband Joe of Fort Smith; three sons, Mart DeWitt and wife Donna of Central Point, Oregon, Packard DeWitt and wife Rachel of Germantown, Tennessee, and Caleb DeWitt of Fort Smith; a brother, Mike DeWitt and wife June of Fort Smith; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Cremation Services in Fort Smith, 914 N. 32nd St. Fort Smith, AR 72903. (479) 434-3901 of (479) 965-8202
