Darleen May (Marlowe) Scott passed Friday, August 16, 2024, at her granddaughter's home in Arkansas. She had lived with her daughter Margaret and son in-law Jeff Cook for over 2 years in Brighton, CO. She was 88 years old. She was born on May 30, 1936, in Lynn, Kansas to the late Samuel "Harold" and Gertrude (Diederich) Marlowe. She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Elizabeth, her husband of 64 years William "Roger" Scott, her twin brother Darrell Marlowe, sister Kathleen Bury and brother Dr. John Marlowe.
Darleen was born in Lynn, Kansas where her parents were farmers and raised cattle. Darleen and her twin brother were the oldest of six children. She had to work on the farm as hard as her twin brother did. Darleen graduated from Greenleaf High school in 1954. She married William "Roger" Scott November 29, 1954 at Smoky Hill Air Force Base, Kansas.They moved to Denver, CO in 1955 where they started their family and had three children Debra, Margaret and Jeff.
In 1959 they moved to Thornton, CO where they lived for 33 years. They moved to Arizona in 1992 and lived in their motorhome for two years while they still worked. They came back to Denver in 1995 and lived in their daughter Margaret's driveway for a year. Her and Roger moved to Fort Morgan in 1996 after retiring and then made Brighton their home in 2004. After Roger passed away she moved to Trinidad in 2019 where she bought a house. A few years later she moved in with her daughter Margaret and son in-law Jeff in Brighton, CO.
Darleen studied Graphology (analysis of handwriting to determine personality traits). She taught Graphology at Front Range Community College and she was a certified Gemologist. She started her sales career selling Beeline fashions while raising her children. They bought a laundromat and dry cleaners where she worked there seven days a week. During all of this, Darleen and Roger would fly to Mexico to purchase turquoise to sell.
In the late 70s Darleen worked in the furniture department at JCPenney and then went onto work at American Furniture. Darleen worked for Helzberg Jewelers and became one of the top 10 sales persons in the nation and was then promoted to manager. Darleen really enjoyed traveling with her husband. They enjoyed vacations that revolved around history. She loved taking care of her home, gardening, sewing and trying out new decorating ideas. Darleen was also a longtime member of Thornton women's club. But first and foremost she loved her husband Roger and he loved her very much.
She's is survived by her sister Joselyn (Terry) Kearn of Lynn, Kansas and Melinda (Robert) Scroggie of Greenleaf, Kansas. Daughters Debra Davis of Huntington, Arkansas, Margaret (Jeffrey) Cook of Brighton, CO., and son Jeffrey (Tracie) Scott of Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Darleen has 6 grandchildren and 3 bonus grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 5 bonus great grandchildren.
Darleen will be greatly missed.
