Cheryl Faye Martin, who resided near Charleston, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. She was born on the old home place near Branch, Arkansas, in Franklin County to Charles Franklin Shumate, Jr. and Deana Jessie "Jackie" (Jackson) Shumate. She was 74 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, C.F. and Jackie Shumate.

For several years, Cheryl worked at Whirlpool, Inc. in Fort Smith and for Jake Patterson at the Charleston Food Center in Charleston. Cheryl enjoyed babysitting, traveling, and cooking, especially for family gatherings and during the Christmas holidays. Cheryl loved her family, her church family, and was a faithful member of Branch First Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 1st at Branch First Baptist Church, with Pastor Tim Hobbs officiating. Services are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Norman Martin; her children, Jason Martin of Charleston and Erin Neal and husband Billy of Charleston; a sister, Linda Mays and husband Garland of Charleston; two brothers, Rex Shumate and wife Joan and Chuck Shumate and wife Melissa, all of Branch; seven grandchildren, Hunter Martin, Sloan Martin, Rayce Neal, Chase Martin, Matthan Neal, Haven Neal, and Creed Neal; and several nieces and nephews.
