Cecil Virden Campbell who resided in Charleston, Arkansas, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 25, 2011 in Charleston. He was born December 21, 1918 in Spadra, Arkansas in Johnson County to the late David Campbell and Bertie (Satterfield) Campbell. He was 92 years old.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Bobby Britt Campbell, and nine brothers and sisters.
Cecil was a retired salesman for Quality Auto Parts in Charleston. He was an Army 335th Infantry veteran of WWII, awarded the Purple Heart in May, 1945. He also received the Good Conduct Medal and European African Eastern Theatre Ribbon. Cecil was a Deacon and member of the First Baptist Church in Charleston.
Cecil was passionate about helping others in need. He was a devoted Christian, loved his family, his country, music, and loved watching his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids play football.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 28th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston. Burial will be at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston.
Officiating the service will be Rev. Larry Horne and Rev. Craig West.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Wynona Campbell of the home; one daughter, Judy McDonald and husband Jerry of Charleston; two sons, Garry Campbell and wife Tina of Greenwood and Dale Campbell of Greenwood; one sister, Mary Jolly of Oakdale, California; five grandchildren, Rusty McDonald and wife Jennifer of Charleston, Joel McDonald and wife Deidra of Charleston, Kimberly White and husband Clay of Irvine, California, Rodney Campbell of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Summer Brassfield and husband Dustin of Charleston; seven great grandchildren, Jeremy, Andy, Ryan, Shaun, and Colton McDonald, Camrie Smith, and Madden Brassfield.
Pallbearers will be Colton, Rusty, Joel, Jeremy, Ryan, and Andy McDonald, Rodney Campbell, and Dustin Brassfield.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the T.J. Burt Sunday School Class, Voil Rippy, Hank Hauser, Jerry Sharpe, Jerry Barton, Bill Bowen, Gene Brown, and Joe Dick Burt. Also a close friend, Jimmy Hignight.
Family will visit with friends 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
