Carolyn Sue Schmitt of Charleston, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Mercy in Fort Smith. She was born April 23, 1938, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to the late Henry Clay Jethro Atwell and Georgia (Randolph) Atwell. She was 87 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Schmitt; a daughter, Carol Erwin; and a brother, Bill Atwell.

Carolyn was a homemaker and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charleston.

Graveside service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Friday, June 6th at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas, with Bro. Mike Taylor officiating, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Schmitt of Charleston; a son, Robert Alan Schmitt and wife Mindy of Farmington; a brother, Jim Atwell of Hot Springs; (4) grandchildren; and (6) great-grandchildren.

Family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
