Obituary

Carol Louise (Girard) Barber of Lavaca, Arkansas, died Thursday, July 6, 2023, in her home. She was born on December 18, 1946 in Fort Smith, to the late Edward Roy and Helen Louise (Welch) Girard. She was 76 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. A. Bud Barber, one step-son, Clarence Barber and a granddaughter, Sherri Dodson.

Carol held a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Arkansas Tech University and retired as a classroom teacher. Her most treasured work was as a summer missionary to the Montana Indian Missions where she spent many summers spreading the gospel of Christ. Her influence and love are felt in the paths she traveled, from the campsites on the lake, through her church, school and community to the reservations in Montana, touching lives along the way.

Burial will be held 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Oak Valley Cemetery, South of Lavaca with a celebration of life to follow at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Lavaca, officiated by Pastor Steven Smithson and Pastor Bruce Plummer. Arrangements are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

She is survived by two sons, Michael C. Barber and wife Lee and Kirk E. Barber and wife Jennifer all of Lavaca, Arkansas; one step-daughter, Judy Jones of Russellville; her sister, Susan Geurian and husband Ken of Lavaca; eight grandchildren, Lee Barber and wife Stacey of Jenks, Oklahoma, Kerrie Sanders and husband Gary of Greenwood, Katie Patton of Fort Smith, Luke Barber of Lavaca, Tony Barber, and wife Cathy of Portland, Oregon, Leslie Collins and husband Mike of London, Arkansas and Tammy Parks of Russellville; seven great-grandchildren, Reese, Adi, Michael, Lila, Rhett, Reagan and Kaylee.

Pallbearers will be Dewayne Jones, Kenny Hobbs, Stuart Smithson, Joe Smithson, Perry Newman and Dane Douglas

Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Carol requested that your donations be made to First Baptist Lavaca for "Montana Missions".
