Obituary

Carmel Ray Sarten of the the Cox Valley Community, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, surrounded by his family near Paris, Arkansas. He was born on July 28, 1939, in the Cox Valley Community near Paris, to the late Jimmy John Sarten and Leora (Fox) Sarten. He was almost 84 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy Rose (Harris) Sarten; a daughter, Lisa Ann (Sarten) Butler; two sons, Johnny Ray Sarten and Donald Sarten; two sisters, Oleta Faye Gordon and Lois Ruth Honea; a brother, Jimmy Carrol Sarten; a grandson, Darryl Miller; and a great-grandson, Christian Miller.

Carmel worked for 32 years at the Paris Rendering Plant and retired from Cloyes Gear Company in Subiaco. He was a member of Paris Free Will Baptist Church and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, cutting wood, and working in the garden. In his early years, he raised quarter horses and AKC puppies. In the summertime, you would find him cutting hay in the hayfield and hauling tons of square bales of hay on the weekends. Carmel was a hard working man and loved his family very much. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 19th at First Free Will Baptist Church in Paris, with Pastor Nate Willcutt officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, located south of Ratcliff, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris.

He is survived by two daughters, Joy Miller and Jerry of Ratcliff and Linda Stinnett and Kenny of Paris; one son, Ronald Sarten and Dorothy of Paris; a brother, Donald Sarten and Thelma of Alix; an adopted son, Jack Quagliesi and Honey of Ozark; (23) grandchildren; (51) great-grandchildren; (15) great-great-grandchildren; and special friend, his dog CoCo.

Pallbearers are Ronald Sarten, Mitchell Stinnett, Charlie Sarten, David Sarten, Jimmy Don Sarten, Steve Sarten, Keith (Choy) Sarten, and Corey Naegle.

Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Miller, Jr., Sean Sarten, Dalton Sarten, Jacob Naegle, Brady Stinnett, Jack Quagliesi, and all of his grandchildren.

The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
