Carl L. Vendel, who resided in Charleston, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018, in Charleston. He was born April 22, 1928, in Carbondale, Illinois to the late Otto Vendel and Ruth (Brown) Vendel. He was 89 years old. He was also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Barbara Lorraine (Thompson) Vendel; and wives, Pauline (Farmer) Vendel and Fern (Murray) Vendel; one son, Alan Vendel; and one sister, Barbara.
Carl was a retired tool & die machinist for Whirlpool, Inc. in Fort Smith. He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, and he was of the Assembly of God faith.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 28th, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with the Rev. John Stewart officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be at Nixon Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by four daughters, Linda Grebe and husband Howard of Van Buren, Gail Vendel of Montgomery, Alabama, Doris Bilderback and husband Larry of Lowell, Arkansas, and Betty Rogers and husband Jim of Kent, Washington; two sons, John Vendel and wife Teresa of Charleston and Kenneth Vendel of Cary, North Carolina; (16) grandchildren, (23) great-grandchildren, and (5) great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jason Grebe, Taylor Sevier, Austin Sevier, Chris Vendel, Joe Birmingham, and Daniel West.
The family will visit with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night at the funeral home.
