Carey Lynn Jackson, who resided near Scranton, Arkansas, died Tuesday, November 14, 2023, in Mercy Hospice at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born on October 6, 1950, in Decatur, Illinois, to the late Carroll Ishmael Jackson and Juanita V. (Vanmeter) Jackson. He was 73 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Jana Christine and Jeremiah Wesley; and a younger sister, Caroline V. Friar.
Carey was a combat veteran of the United States Navy where he served in Vietnam aboard the USS Providence. He was a retired LPN, lifetime member of the NRA, and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A small private graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 20th at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith. "Celebration of Life" will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 30th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Country Club Lane, Clarksville, Arkansas. Officiating the service will be Bishop Seth Schubarth. Funeral services are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna (Pack) Jackson; two sons, Daniel Jackson and wife Heather of Paris and David Jackson of St. George, Utah; one daughter, Savannah Shiffler and husband Dylan of Belleville, Illinois; five grandchildren, Alexandra Phoenix of Belleville, Illinois, Hayden Essman, Austin Jackson, Jake Jackson and Hope Jackson, all of Paris; two younger sisters, Tina Atkinson and husband Harold of Morrilton, Arkansas, and Angie Brown of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Jim Jackson and wife Danielle of Michigan; and his beloved dog, Roscoe.
