Obituary

Billy Mont Bowen of Charleston, Arkansas, died Friday, December 16, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born on February 26, 1933, in the Bloomer Community in Sebastian County near Charleston to the late Luther L. Bowen and Pearl (Brotherton) Bowen. He was 89 years old. He was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Janie (Johnston) Bowen; his second wife, Mary Alice Bowen; and a sister, Doris Paul.

Billy Mont was a 20 year retired U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Vietnam War and also worked 18 years for the U.S. Postal Service. Billy Mont loved sports, especially baseball and softball. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan, Razorback fan, Charleston Tiger fan, and golfer. For many years, he served as church treasurer, deacon, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Charleston.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21st at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with the Rev. Larry Horne and Rev. Artie Hudson officiating. Burial will follow, with full military honors, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

He is survived by two sons, Mark Bowen and wife Tahnee of Charleston and Bobby Bowen and wife Linda of Greenwood; three daughters, Teri Schoephoerster and husband John of Goodyear, Arizona, Becky Robertson and companion Vince Walbe of Lavaca, and Nancy Stone and husband Jack of Crystal Springs, Arkansas; a sister, Bettye King of Charleston; (10) grandchildren, (6) step-grandchildren, (15) great-grandchildren, and (1) great-great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Alex Bowen, Coady Bowen, Joshua Bowen, Brian Hunter, Jimmy Sargent, and Vince Walbe.

Honorary pallbearers will be previous ballplayers who played under Billy Mont's softball coaching career.

The family will visit with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked donations by made to First Baptist Church Children's Youth Camp Fund at First Baptist Church in Charleston.
