Obituary

Billa Jean McGill King of Charleston, Arkansas, died Monday, March 18, 2024, at Greenhurst Nursing Center in Charleston. She was born on September 6, 1936, in the Bollinger Hospital in Charleston to the late Edgar Dock Haney and Iva Pearl (Dunn) Haney. She was 87 years old.

Billa was a 1954 graduate of Charleston High School and the first woman to drive a school bus for Charleston Public Schools. For several years she worked at Gerber, Inc. in Fort Smith, was a seamstress at Lady Fair Mills near Ratcliff, was mostly known as being a caregiver, and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Billa loved her family and her church family very much and will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Funeral service will be be held at 10:00 a.m.,Friday, March 22nd at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with Mr. Wayne Richardson officiating the service. Burial will follow at Nixon Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

Billa was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 36 years, John McGill and late husband, James Allen King, Sr.; a sister, Betty Parker; and two brothers, Bobby Haney and Carl Haney.

She is survived by her four daughters, Teresa Vendel and husband John of Charleston, Penny Campbell and husband Dan of Lavaca, Julie Bangs and husband Carl of Charleston, and Suzanne Little and husband Paul of Charleston; a brother, Bud Haney and wife Debbie of Reno, Nevada; nine grandchildren, Chris Vendel, Jenny Connelly, Brian Martin, Adam Martin, Darrin Martin, Jamie Bangs, Laramie Bolton, Macy Little, and Jonathon Little; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Chris Vendel, Brian Martin, Adam Martin, Darrin Martin, Jonathon Little, and Austin Bolton.

Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters.

The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
