Obituary

Arlis Nathan Biggs, who resided in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, July 21, 2020, in Sallisaw. He was born July 17, 1921, in Ratcliff, Arkansas, to the late N. Calaway Biggs and Julia Elizabeth (Schouweiler) Biggs. He was 99 years old. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother and two other brothers, Raymond Biggs and Keck Biggs; and two sisters, Verna Rowan and Edith Booth.

Arlis was a retired construction and maintenance technician for Whirlpool, Inc. in Fort Smith. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran and also served in the U.S. National Guard for several years. Arlis was a man who loved to build and repair things which led to a life of helping family and friends with whatever they needed from building on rooms and remodeling homes to fixing the neighbor's clock. His many years spent working in the Norge/Whirlpool maintenance department resulted in some lifelong friendships that almost seemed like family. Being born in an era before electricity and indoor plumbing, being raised during the depression, and serving in the Pacific for four years during WWII gave him a love and appreciation of family, our country, and of life. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24th, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with Pastor Austin Carrigan officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice Taylor and husband Tommy of Sallisaw; two grandchildren, Michael Taylor and Melissa Carrigan and husband Austin, all of Sallisaw; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Matthews and Dylan Carrigan.

Pallbearers are Jerry Blodgett, Howard Carruth, Michael Taylor, Dylan Carrigan, Howard Gossett, and Mike Reeves.
