IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anne
Slicker
November 19, 1925 – January 3, 2025
Anne Slicker of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away Friday, January 3, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith. She was born on November 19, 1925, in Saskatchewan, Canada, to the late Nick Michayluk and Helen (Mulka) Michayluk. She was 99 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Slicker; a son, Ron Schwietzer; a brother, Julian Michayluk; and a sister, Stella Michayluk Bahniuk.
Anne grew up on a farm in Canada which she said was hard work but loved it there. She told us stories of harvesting the fields of potatoes and the ones there weren't good enough for the market were roasted in a big bonfire after they were done. She told about an early winter carriage ride with snow, blankets, and coal in a pan to keep warm. Her stories reminded everyone of a Hallmark movie since the family didn't have much but were rich in love.
Anne and Carl belonged to a group that square danced. They traveled and won many first place ribbons. They traveled with an RV group through the mountain campsites in California and Nevada. She was a perogie queen that could make 200 of the most delicious perogies in a hot minute, it was a Ukrainian staple, cheap to make and very filling.
Her nieces from Canada would visit California and she would take them to Disneyland. They said her kindness and loving nature made them always want to be like her.
She is survived by a daughter in law, Elizabeth Schwietzer; a granddaughter, Annie Aviles; a great-granddaughter, Jayda Cravey; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Michayluk, that was more like a sister; and three nieces.
