Obituary

Allan Wayne Humpherys, 65, from Eskridge, Kansas, died unexpectedly on Saturday May 1, 2021, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born in Montpelier, Idaho, to Charles Wayne and Larna Lewis Humpherys on September 18, 1955. He graduated from Bear Lake High School and he served a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Philippines. He was a life-long member of the church and he served the church in various positions over the years. He loved horses and football and he was very active in both during his school years. He attended Brigham Young University for 2 years and then he transferred to the University of Kansas Medical Center where he became a paramedic and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Medical Administration and a Master's degree in Public Health. He worked as a paramedic at Johnson County Medical Action for 14 years; he was the paramedic training director for Raymore, Missouri for three years and the training director for American Medical Response for two years. He founded and ran the paramedic program at Kansas City Kansas Community College until he retired. During retirement, he worked as a substitute teacher until the COVID pandemic. He served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians and he was a PALS and ACLS instructor for several decades. He designed the Jay Scientist mascot for the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1994. He met his future wife, Kelly Lietz, at KUMC and they married on June 21, 1980.

He is survived by Kelly and their three children: Jared (Liz) Humpherys of Gardner, Kansas; Ashley (Sam) Solomon of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and Devin (Emily) Humpherys of Prairie Village, Kansas. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Jacob and Jocelyn Solomon and Amelia Gibbs; two sisters, LaNae (Troy) Sterr of Logan, Utah and Karen Briand of Montpelier, Idaho; his brother-in-law, Jerry Lietz of Eskridge; one niece, five nephews, and many additional friends and family.

Allan will be laid to rest on the farm that he loved on Saturday, May 8 th at 11:00 AM, in a graveside service. Condolences can be sent to the family at 17251 Highway K4 Eskridge, KS 66423.
