Alfred Joseph Abshere, who resided near Lavaca, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born February 16, 1949, in Landshut, Germany. He was 68 years old. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Lee Abshere; and one nephew, Heath Spence.
Alfred was a quality engineer at Baldor Electric Company in Fort Smith for 49 years. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Alfred loved his family very much, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 23rd, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston. Officiating the service will be Alfred's close friends, Ken Woodard, Steve Reynolds, and Merle Bradley. Cremation and services are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Janie (Gayle) Abshere; one daughter, Jennifer Taylor and husband Billy of Lavaca; Jennifer's mother, Kay Waggoner and husband Daniel of Charleston; his mother, Marianne Abshere of Mt. Ida; one sister, Rita Austin and husband Bobby of Mt. Ida; two grandchildren, Abrie Rainwater and Liam Taylor; a nephew, Erick Spence of Greenwood; and his extended family, Jay Lynn Chronister and husband Lance of Fort Smith, Jimmie Don Wood of Fort Smith, and Destiny Pence of Greenwood.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lind Strassburg, Erick Spence, Chris Campbell, Greg Dawson, Chris Moody, Johnny McKusker, Brad McDaniel, Gary Weems, employees and former employees of Baldor Electric Company, and employees of Southwestern Die-Casting Company.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alfred's name to charity of your choice.
